Hants MP’s urge cut in wind farm subsidy

Tory MPs from Gosport and Winchester are among the 100 who have sent a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to cut subsidies to new wind farms. They want the money saved spent on other renewables and energy efficiency. Some MPs have rural seats and consider that the presence of turbines devalue local landscapes. Others would prefer to see the green agenda de-emphasised in favour of more carbon based development.

The letter follows the appointment of the new Climate and Energy Minister after Chris Huhne’s recent resignation. FOE is urging the new Minister, Ed Davey MP, to stand firm. The UK is Europe’s windiest country and situated in the right places turbines are a vital part of the future energy mix and the cleanest form of power generation.
