THE deadline for the public to have its say on controversial plans for a huge new solar farm has been extended.

And dozens more letters will be sent to households close to the Newlands Farm site to seek residents’ views after The News revealed that only 13 homes had been sent notification of the consultation.

The final date for comments on the plans for the 143-acre site between Fareham and Stubbington has now been extended from November 30th to December 21st.

Should it be given the green light, German renewable energy firm IB Vogts will construct 4,166 solar voltaic panels in rows totalling five miles in length.

Letters were initially only sent to residents living in Newgate Lane, and to HMS Collingwood as well as Southern Water and the Defence Estate Organisation.

The planning application proposes solar panels and associated equipment, security fencing, landscaping, and two transformer buildings, along with community green space for recreational use.

Councillor Nick Walker, chairman of the planning committee, said: ‘We are planning a number of public events where people can find out more about the plans.

‘We will publicise the details of these very shortly.

‘We have also extended the date for people to comment on the planning application and I would urge anyone who would like to make their views known to take this opportunity to do so.’

Consultation letters giving details of the public events and how to comment on the planning application will be sent out shortly to properties in Peel Common, Stubbington – East of Mays Lane and north of Gosport Road, and homes on Longfield Avenue, overlooking the fields to the south.

The full plans can be seen and comments made online at

Written comments can also be sent to the Department of Planning and Environment (Development Management & Trees), Fareham Borough Council, Civic Offices, Civic Way, Fareham PO16 7AZ.

All comments need to be received by December 21st at 5pm. Any questions about the application can be put through to the planning reception on (01329) 236100.
