This development is being strongly opposed by Blackwater Valley friends of the Earth. They are currently co-ordinating a strong campaign against this development on several grounds - safety, noise pollution, air pollution, environmental destruction.

As they say " It is difficult to imagine a more inappropriate place for an airport than Farnborough. The quality of life for local people will suffer."

Blackwater Valley Friends of the earth have carried out considerable studies to these proposed developments and have highlighted many effects of the development to allow residents to fully appreciate the of the proposed work.

It is interesting to note that many tactics are being used to block BVFoE's attempts at having the development openly discussed.

A meeting held on the 28th October by Hart Council in support of the development, blocked any Friends of the earth representatives unless they lived in Hart.

There are residents in Hart who are against the development and are Friends of the Earth representatives but as Rick Kimber of BVFoE points out:

"As none of the BVFoE officials that have good knowledge of TAG's application are Hart residents this would effectively silence the expertise of the group, including a Farnborough based acoustic consultant working on behalf of BVFoE"

Blackwater Valley are currently doing battle with many local councils as the obvious short term benefits lure them to accept the proposals. For further information, visit BVFoE's website.
