Hampshire and Isle of Wight Friends of the Earth exists to promote the conservation, restoration and rational use of the environment, along with greater public awareness of these issues and consequent change to promote sustainable life styles.

It provides an opportunity for the Local Groups in Hampshire to meet, socialise and work together on environmental campaigns and every six months other environmental groups join us at a Liaison Meeting with Hampshire County at which topical questions of environmental importance are put to the officers and councillors. In this way we hope to influence the chief decision-makers in the area.

There are around 219 local groups in the Friends of the Earth (FOE) network in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (FOE Scotland is a separate organisation). FOE local groups campaign to improve the environment in their own backyard, as well as joining in with campaigns nationally and internationally.

Why Friends of the Earth's campaigns get results:

  • Wherever possible, we aim to get our facts right.

  • We expose environmental destruction and related social injustices.

  • We propose positive solutions - and show how solving environmental problems will help solve economic and social problems.

  • We pursue campaigns over the long term. We cover a wide range of issues. We work at all levels - locally, nationally and internationally. We increase awareness and understanding.

  • We offer opportunities for everyone to get involved.
