Hampshire Water Festival 2010

The first Hampshire Water Festival took place in August 2003 in Winchester and was a great success with 10,000 visitors. Now in it’s 8th year we have moved to to Staunton Country Park which is situated just north of Havant. The event is even more successful than ever drawing crowds of 12,000 visitors over the 2 day event. With more than 70 exhibitors there is something for everyone!

What has been agreed at Cancun?

Halting global warming at a rise of less than 2C above pre-industrial levels (it presently stands at about 0.8C above those levels). Recognition that industrialized countries must do more. Setting up a date for a global peak in carbon emissions.

2C target agreed and the need for stronger action by developed countries was recognized but no date set and it remains hold as to how it should be allocated and verified. The pledges (as such) have been brought into the UN process and documentation, or in the jargon, “anchored”.

Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) of emissions-new, softer version of the original MRV proposals discussed at Copenhagen

An outline treaty to prevent more deforestation because of the carbon emissions released with various safeguards including rules to protect forest peoples and wildlife.

A new institution run by World Bank to channel some of the vast new climate finance to the developing countries – likely to be $100bn (£63bn) annually by 2020.
