Mega wind farm announced

A major new wind farm site has been awarded to Eneco west of the Isle of Wight 9 miles off the south Dorset coast. The £3Bn. project will consist of up 230 large turbines and generate electricity for over 800,000 homes in Dorset. Work is scheduled to start in 2016 and is expected to take 3 years. A public information day is being held at Lymington Community Centre on Thursday, March 24 between 2pm and 8pm. The government is committed to producing 15 % of the UK’s energy requirement from renewable sources by 2020.

Havant Council hits 1010 Target

Havant Borough Council has hit a 10:10 pledge to reduce its carbon footprint by 10 per cent in a year. A eucalyptus tree was planted to recognize the achievement. The eucalyptus is suited to hot, dry summers and represents the adaptations that will have to be made to combat climate change. The ceremony was witnessed by members of the Havant FOE, the Transition Towns Network and the borough’s tree wardens, Council staff members have also made dozens of personal pledges to greener living.
